Dan grew up in Colorado, Arizona and California. He graduated from Eagle Mountain High School in California in 1975. Eagle Mountain was an iron-ore mining town that is now largely a ghost town. Dan spent 2 years in Spain doing volunteer missionary work in 1976-1978. He speaks, reads and writes spanish. Dan graduated from BYU in 1980 with a degree in accounting and he later added his MBA. He passed the CPA exam with the highest score in Wyoming. While at BYU, he met and married Janean Comstock. We just celebrated our 29th anniversary. In 1980 Dan started a 20 year career with Utah’s power company. He left PacifiCorp (AKA Rocky Mountain Power) in January of 2000. He now works as a manager for IHG (Intercontinental Hotels Group), the company that owns Holiday Inn, and 7 other hotel brands.
In 1983 we moved to Wyoming and lived in that beautiful state for 13 years. In 1987 Dan produced the Quest for Achievement program. It is an audio success adventure complete with authentic nature sounds from the Pacific Northwest, Please see the miscellaneous section of this web page for a free download. We moved from Wyoming to Utah in 1996 and our 3 children have graduated, married and settled down in the Salt Lake area. Dan and Janean love to travel together. Dan and oldest son Daniel have enjoyed much time together sport fishing off the pacific coast of Mexico - see that fishing web link below.
Janean was born in Honolulu. She grew up in Hawaii and California. In 1968 her dad retired from the Navy and took a hospital position with the Hoopa Indian tribe in Hoopa, California. Janean thought for sure, she’d be going to school with Big Foot. Much to her disappointment, she never even met the creature. In 1972 Janean underwent surgery for Neuro-Muscular Scoliosis. The recovery put her in a body cast for the next two years of her life. One of the biggest and most important lessons in life came from a garbage bag (by way of her father). Feeling rather abused and picked on by life, she naturally assumed she would get special treatment because of her “condition”. She soon learned the reality of the situation and had a major GRC (gruesome reality check) while trying to get out of washing dishes. Her logic was that the water would disintegrate the plaster of her cast. Her father quickly pulled out a garbage bag, cut three holes in it; one for the neck and two for the arms. “There are NO victims in this house”, were the words she remembers to this day. Feeling rather down trodden, she finished the dishes wearing her new apron and realized that being a victim would get her no where fast! Janean excelled in academics and student government while in High School.
After High School she attended a Business Law school in Santa Rosa, Ca. She later moved to Utah and attended Brigham Young University where she me Dan. She married Dan in 1980 and together, they have 3 children, Daniel, Alissa, and Jennifer. The children have been her major priority in life but she did manage to continue to work in administrative management positions working for doctors and lawyers. She continues to do so today for an underground construction company. Having spent most of her life on either a farm or a ranch, Janean loves animals and gardening. She also has a passion for singing and music. She is now retired from teaching piano as an avocation.
In 2007 Dan and Janean started a home-based travel agency, Odyssey Travel that specializes in cruises. Janean's book 12 Things to Know Before Going on Your Cruise is available as a free download on this site. Janean continues to learn and take classes learning all about the different ports of call, different cruise lines, and the cultures of different countries. She particularly likes the field trips.
